The news:
The Commission will host Green Week, the biggest annual occasion to discuss European environment policy, taking place from Monday, 30 May to Friday, 3 June 2016.
This year’s theme is on “Investing for a greener future”: how investment should integrate economic opportunity with sustainable environment practice.
The background:
To show how the investments of today can help a “greener future” become a reality, each day of the Green Week will focus on different aspects of the theme:
On Monday, Green Week will host an event in Ljubljana, EU’s Green Capital for 2016 and will focus on how investing for greener cities can improve the quality of urban life.
On Tuesday, ways of securing our future through investments in the countryside will be explored.
Wednesday focuses on finding the financing for EU’s needs under the Investment Plan for Europe, and Thursday then looks at investing in our oceans.
Friday widens the scope to a more global outlook, namely investing in sustainable development for future generations.
The event:
Events and activities will take place across Europe, centred round a high-level conference in Brussels on Wednesday 1 June, with a wide variety of organisations and partners taking part.
